Kyle Irving’s body of work focuses primarily on
Traditional Asian inspired styles, themed with
punk-rock and pop contemporary culture. He
received his BA in 2006 from Oakland University
in Rochester Hills, MI. His work has been
exhibited in numerous magazines and in galleries
such as Design Haus, Rochester MI; Oakland
County Galleria, Pontiac MI; Meadow Brook Art
Gallery, Auburn Hills, and the Mona Art Gallery,
Pontiac MI.
“Music has always been a huge part of my life.
It has inspired me from the first CD that I
bought.” Irving said. “I have always tried to
capture what music can directly and bluntly say
in an image that will invoke some sort of
feeling or thought. I remember the best comment
I ever got on a piece of work was by a guy I
worked with. He looked at the piece ‘Sick of it
All’ and said “I can totally see that as a CD
cover.” It felt good knowing that my work was
accomplishing what I wanted it to.”
Irving’s early work focused more on realism as
he made his way through school, learning the
traditional and basics. “My senior thesis piece
was a massive wall image of realism, it was all
charcoal and I swear I lost at least four finger
tips” After his school years Kyle moved past the
charcoal medium and realism to using more mixed
media and urban themed work. Irving has been
known venture out of his studio on the streets
and put throw up tags in his home town. Since
then he has been using ink, water color and
spray paint. Kyle continues to work on pieces
and continues to study the old masters. |
